Our story began in 2013 in Vienna, Austria, where a pivotal moment reshaped the landscape of African storytelling. Just seven days before the launch of her book, Ankwetta B. Achaleke was informed by her publisher that her manuscript would not be published unless she agreed to changes that compromised her authenticity. Refusing to silence her voice, she took matters into her own hands and self-published her book.

The result? A triumphant book launch on the original date, where she sold 300 copies in one evening.

Looking back, Ankwetta views that rejection as a blessing in disguise. Had she complied, she would have remained dependent on a system that stifled her creativity, giving away ownership of her intellectual property and a large share of her earnings. Instead, she became the author of 48 books, the publisher of over 60 titles, and a coach to 22 aspiring authors—most of whom are now award winners whose books are read in South African schools.

Today, Ankwetta credits that moment with inspiring the founding of GloBUNTU Books, a platform that champions authenticity, ownership, and the celebration of African voices. She reflects on Wayne Dyer’s wisdom: "When things look like they are falling apart, they are actually falling in place."

I am Tshimangadzo Afeziwe Tshikosi, a 20-year-old proudly Afrocentric South African woman from the vibrant city of Cape Town, one of the legislative capitals of our beautiful nation. As the eldest of three sisters in the Tshikosi family, I cherish my roots as a descendant of King Shaka Zulu and the vha-Venda Royal Family, which has instilled in me a deep respect for African heritage and values.

My journey as a lifelong learner and advocate for community upliftment began early, thanks to the guidance of my parents, Ramarumo and Sthembile, who emphasized gratitude, healthy living, and giving back. Over the years, I’ve embraced my multiple talents, from excelling in dance, beadwork, and African musical instruments to being fluent in two African languages.

Our Mission

GloBUNTU Books exists to fill a critical gap in the publishing world by bringing to life the authentic voices and untold stories of Africans and people of African descent. We empower aspiring authors—especially children and women—by providing tailored coaching, mentorship, and publishing services, ensuring their stories remain unapologetically authentic.

Since 2017, 32 of our books have been approved and are currently being used in schools across South Africa. Remarkably, 12 of these are written by graduates of our GloBUNTU Holiday Masterclasses for Kids, a program tailored for young authors aged 7 to 12.
